“Star Wars” creator George Lucas has married his girlfriend of seven years, Mellody Hobson.
The 69-year-old director and producer married Mellody, 44, on Saturday night in Marin County, California.
Director Ron Howard, who attended their wedding ceremony, congratulated the newlyweds on Twitter.
Actor Samuel L Jackson, who played Jedi Mace Windu in “The Phantom Menace”, “Attack Of The Clones”, and “Revenge Of The Sith”, also tweeted a “Galactic shout out” to the famous director.
George Lucas and Mellody Hobson became engaged in January of 2013, but dated since meeting at a business conference in 2006.
Hobson heads the investment management firm Ariel Investments and is also chairman of the board at Dream Works Animation SKG Inc. This is the first marriage for Hobson.
George Lucas was previously married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 until their divorce in 1983. He has three adopted children.
Mellody and George discussed their relationship during an interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
Mellody said, “I think it works because we are extraordinarily open-minded people and we’re open to what the universe brings us. I think we didn’t have preconceived ideas about what a partnership should be and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected.”
