Sophie Simmons, whose father is the frontman for legendary rock band KISS, auditioned on Wednesday night’s final audition for “The X Factor”.
The 19-year-old singer made it through to the next round after wowing the judges including Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell.
Simmons wanted to try and make it with her own singing ability and not just because of her famous father.
But her cover was blown when judge Demi Lovato recognized her as Nick Simmons’ sister and Gene Simmons’ daughter.
In an interview before her audition, Sophie said, “My dad is Gene Simmons from KISS. I really just want to step out of being the daughter of the guy from KISS. I want to be my own person and hopefully this is the way to show the world who I am.”
Sophie performed Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” as her parents, Shannon and Gene, watched nervously backstage.
The crowd loved her performance, but judge L.A. Reid wasn’t quite so sure.
Demi stated, “I think if you just got a little bit more control you could be really great.”
Britney Spears said, “I think you have an amazing voice”.
Simon Cowell stated, “I think you have a very interesting tone to your voice. ‘I liked the fact that you took on the song. You kind of made it your version.”
Sophie then had to wait nervously to see if she made it through after L.A. Reid gave her a ‘No’ vote.
The other three judges gave Sophie Simmons a ‘Yes’ and she made it through to the next round.
Sophie broke down in tears and hugged her famous parents offstage, saying “I didn’t expect to want it that bad until I got up there.”
