Aretha Franklin, 69, has canceled her upcoming wedding to longtime friend Willie Wilkerson.
The singer confirms the engagement is off, just three weeks after announcing she was to wed later this year.
Franklin stated that “a number of things” hadn’t been considered, but said she wouldn’t comment about the specifics because “the very personal and sensitive nature of it”.
Aretha didn’t actually say if they called it quits completely, only stating, “Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends”.
This would have been the third walk down the aisle for Franklin, who was married to Ted White for eight years and later to actor Glynn Turman for six years.
