Meredith Vieira Quits “Today Show” With Ann Curry As Replacement

Meredith Vieira announces her departure from the “Today Show” in June 2011.

Meredith Vieira, who will be taking on a new role at the network which remains unspecified, will be succeeded by news anchor Ann Curry.

Natalie Morales will be taking over Curry’s news anchor role, and White House correspondent Savannah Guthrie will move into Morales’ spot.

Rumors have circulated for weeks that Meredith would be leaving the “Today Show”, who has co-hosted with Matt Lauer for five years.

Matt Lauer is also expected to make a decision about his career future before his contract ends in 2012.

Vieira made her emotional announcement on the show today, stating, “This is a difficult day for me. I’m going to try to hold myself together here. But after months of personal reflection and private conversations between my family and my friends, I’ve decided to leave Today in June”.
