The judges of “American Idol” were shocked to learn the frontrunner of the singing competition, Pia Toscano, was voted off the show.
New York singer Pia Toscano, 22, was voted off “American Idol” on Thursday and had never even appeared in the bottom three prior to Thursday’s elimination.
Judge Jennifer Lopez appeared to be in tears after host Ryan Seacrest, 36, announced Toscano was going home.
“I have no idea what just happened here,” Lopez, 41, told Pia. “I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t know what to say.”
Judge Randy Jackson, 54, was also surprised. “I’m gutted. You were one of the best singers in this,” he said. “I’m never upset on this show and never mad, but this makes me mad.”
