Actress Katie Holmes Wins Defamation Lawsuit

Katie Holmes has received a formal apology from Star Magazine after filing a $50 million defamation lawsuit against them.

Star Magazine put Katie Holmes, who is married to actor Tom Cruise, on their February cover with the headline, “Addiction nightmare – Katie drug shocker! – The real reason she can’t leave Tom.”

The story they published didn’t actually say Katie used drugs but the actress blasted their “malicious claims”.

But the tabloid magazine and Holmes have reached a settlement agreement.   In Wednesday’s issue of the magazine, they publicly apologized and revealed they will make a large donation to a charity of Katie’s choice.

Star’s editors wrote, “In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about Katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs.

“Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for drug addiction. Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused.”

Katie, 32, responded to their statement, saying, “I’m pleased that this lawsuit could be resolved amicably and accept American Media’s apology.”
