Police discovered DJ Megatron, 32, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest early Sunday morning.
Megatron, whose real name is Corey McGriff, had been on his way to a store near his house at around 2 a.m.
A person near the area heard the gunshot and called 911. Paramedics arrived on the scene but he had already passed away.
“We don’t know what the motive was. We don’t know what preceded the incident, and we would love it if some witnesses came forward,” a source with the police department stated.
DJ Megatron’s family are trying to come to terms with his murder.
“It is just earth-shattering,” his mother, Louvenia McGriff, 60, stated.
“Words can’t describe the way my husband and I feel right now. I just don’t know how we’re going to make it without him. He was our golden child.”
McGriff, 32, was known for his appearances on BET’s show “106 & Park.”
“The BET Networks Family is saddened by the news of the untimely loss of our friend and colleague, Corey ‘Megatron’ McGriff,” the statement said. “We extend our deepest condolence to his family. He will truly be missed.”
