Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is having part of her leg amputated after gangrene began setting in her right leg.
Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, was taken to the UCLA medical center in Los Angeles yesterday to undergo surgery to remove part of her right leg.
Gabor’s rep John Blanchette stated, “She developed a lesion on the leg that had swollen a while back and caused her to go to the hospital for treatment, but it has not responded. In fact, it has increased in size, and the doctors have wanted to operate for several days.
“They’re going to have to amputate part of her leg. They said if they didn’t, she could lose her life.”
Her doctors have warned her she needed the surgery but Zsa Zsa was able to spend the holidays at home with her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt.
Zsa Zsa’s rep added, “Frederic and Zsa Zsa asked if they could spend New Year’s at home, and they shared champagne and caviar. The doctors came to the house today, and when they unwrapped the bandages, they saw that the wound had festered and they were afraid of gangrene developing, which would be life-threatening.”
Zsa Zsa has been in bad health ever since she fell out of bed after surgery to remove a blood clot from her leg. At that time a priest was even called in to read the actress her last rites.
