Shane Dronett was found dead in his home. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The investigation is still ongoing relating to the cause and manner of death,” Ted Bailey, the Chief Forensic Investigator in Gwinnett County, told the newspaper.
Dronett was a defensive tackle and played his final six seasons (1996-2002) with the Atlanta Falcons and was there in1998 when they made it to the Super Bowl.
“The entire Atlanta Falcons family is saddened by the news of Shane Dronett’s passing,” the team said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences are with his family during this difficult time.”
Shane Dronett played four seasons for the Denver Broncos before joining the Falcons, who lost to the Broncos in the Super Bowl.
