TMZ has just reported Evan Tanner’s cause of death:
Evan Tanner went missing late last week after taking a lone expedition in the desert. Evan Tanner text messaged a friend that he needed water. A search team found his body.
There’s something weird about this case. Tanner blogged that going into the desert could be life-threatening and he needed the proper equipment. And running out of water in 110 degree heat is not good.
MMA Junkie reports that police have recovered the body of Evan Tanner. And Kyria McBrayer, Tanner’s assistant for the “Team Tanner” fan club, confirmed she had received the news of Evan Tanner’s death today.
Supposedly Tanner’s motorcycle was found at a campsite. And a sheriff’s deputy found Tanner’s body when searching the area.
Evan Tanner hadn’t been heard from since September 3rd and the search for Tanner began on Saturday, but sadly turned up nothing at first.
Tanner was originally from Texas where he won his state high school wrestling title in 1989, later turned an MMA professional in 1997 and began his career with a stellar 19-1 record to earn his way into the UFC.
Tanner started blogging for Spike.com, where he chronicled his life. In an Aug. 16 entry, Tanner discussed his plans to camp out in a California desert as a sort of a spiritual journey. Many readers worried with him only bringing minimal things with him.
“I’ve been gathering my gear for this adventure for over a month, not a long time by most standards, but far too long for my impatient nature,” Tanner wrote. “Being a minimalist by nature, wanting to carry only the essentials, and being extremely particular, it has been a little difficult to find just the right equipment. I plan on going so deep into the desert that any failure of my equipment could cost me my life.”
Our condolences to friends, family, and the many fans of Evan Tanner.
