Dita Von Teese, burlesque artist performer, photo gallery and biography. Dita Von Teese was featured on this month’s Maxim Germany magazine cover.

Dita Von Teese is a popular burlesque artist, credited for bringing the sexy “pin-up” look back in vogue.

Dita Von Teese was born Heather Renee Sweet on September 28, 1972. Dita is a burlesque artist, model, and actress.

Dita seems to be partly responsible for the return of burlesque to the mainstream. Dita Von Teese seemed to gain popularity when she married Marilyn Manson, aka Brian Warner, in 2005, divorcing in 2007.

Dita Von Teese was born in Michigan to a manicurist and a machinist. Dita’s fascination with 1940’s style began at an early age, as her mother would buy her clothes from the “golden era” to dress up in, as well as her love for the actress, Betty Grable.

Dita Von Teese was classically trained as a ballet dancer from an early age, and danced solo at age thirteen for a local ballet company.

At age twelve she moved from Michigan to Orange County, California with her parents and her two sisters.

Dita Von Teese worked in sales at age fifteen, in a lingerie store. Von Teese has been fond of wearing elaborate lingerie such as corsets and basques with fully fashioned stockings ever since.

Dita Von Teese worked in a local strip club at age eighteen, but was disappointed by the lack of originality in the acts. It was around this time that Dita began doing modeling. Her unique retro pin-up look, set her apart from other models.

Von Teese appeared in a number of fetish magazines, and was also featured on the cover of the book, “The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage.”

Dita Von Teese was featured in Playboy magazine in 1999, 2001 and 2002. It was actually her Playboy cover in December 2002 that gave her the last name “Teese”. Originally known simply as “Dita”, a tribute to silent film actress Dita Parlo. Playboy insisted she use a last name. She picked “Von Treese” out of a telephone book, but it was misspelled “Von Teese”. Dita liked the name “Teese” and kept it. Dita says that it is her appearances in Playboy that finally won her father’s respect for her profession.

Dita began performing her burlesque shows in 1993. She is accredited with bringing burlesque strip tease back in style.

  1. Tonight, in Florida, Dita Von Teese performed at LIV Nightclub in Miami Florida. All gay fans who truly adored her (one with a massive tattoo of Von Teese) were turned away at the door. Any heterosexual, big breasted, blonde girls or Ken doll looking jocks, got in immediately. DESPITE THE GUEST LIST, if you were gay or "looked weird" or were over-weight, you were turned away. Vonteese's manager could not be bothered with the discrimination, nor could the nightclub's owner. Therefore…all gay fans, some of whom traveled 100 miles, were turned away, with no consideration of any kind. It is SAFE TO assume DITA WOULD HAVE BEEN HORRIFIED, HAD SHE KNOWN WHAT WAS GOING ON. AT LEAST ONE HOPES SO.

The overweight–the gay–the true fans went home disappointed–whereas the straight Barbie & Ken Doll patrons got to see Dita up close and personal. Although…they could have cared less. They didn't even know who the HELL SHE WAS.
