Sydney Pollack, 73, died on Monday, May 26, 2008, in his home. His publicist said that he had cancer.

Sydney was most remembered for his movies like “Tootsie”, “Out of Africa” and “The Way We Were.” Some of his movies were awarded many Academy Award nominations.

Sydney was a producer of independent movies. He started Mirage Enterprises with Anthony Minghella. Anthony had passed away in March 2008. The last film Sydney directed was “Sketches of Frank Gehry.” He usually made films with stars. His movies were commonly on the romance and drama genre.

Sydney had tried his acting skills until he met Burt Lancaster. Burt advised him to turn to directing. He did not win all the critics’ praises but he made some great films. Hollywood would remember him for a long time.
