Jason Rae, 31, a saxophonist, and husband of British soul singer Corrine Bailey Rae, died in Leeds. It happened on Saturday. A post mortem was done and results were inconclusive. It was suspected that Jason died from an accidental drug overdose. Police will wait for the toxicology results for more information.
Police made enquiries and arrested a man, 32, on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. He was released on bail.
Jason Rae’s band, The Haggis Horns, had been booked to play at HiFi Club in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The gig was cancelled. The Haggis Horns were an 8 piece live funk extravaganza. They played the music for Corrine Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson in live performances and recordings too.
Corrine met her husband Jason when she worked as a cloakroom attendant in a Leeds jazz club. The couple got married in 2001 when she was 22. Her record label, EMI, made a statement on Sunday. It offered condolences to Corrine and the Rae family. It asked for respect for their privacy.
