Miss Belgium, Alizee Poulicek, does not speak Dutch, one of Belgium’s national languages. She was booed by her live audience when she admitted that she could not speak Dutch. It did not help that she came from the country’s French speaking region. Presently, the political situation in Belgium is unstable.

The French and Dutch speaking communities are not on good terms. Alizee Poulicek’s crowing was not welcomed. The Dutch reporters publicly humiliated her by asking her questions in Dutch. Alizee defended herself by saying that she did take up lessons in speaking Dutch but she had not mastered the language yet.
