Celebrity adoptions have become very popular over the years, with many stars finding it the best choice for their family.
Some people may choose to offer a child a better life, maybe they are a single parent, or have difficulty conceiving their own child. We’re taking a look at celebs that have adopted children.
Sandra Bullock had started proceedings to adopt a son when she went through a nasty split with her cheating ex-husband, Jesse James. She continued with her plans and is raising her precious son,Louis Bardo Bullock on her own.
Singer Lionel Richie adopted the daughter of a member of his band when she was three-years-old. The adoption was formalized in 1990 when she became Nicole Richie. She began as a reality star and went on to become a fashionista!
Nicole said of the adoption, “My parents were friends with Lionel. They trusted that he would be better able to provide for me.”
Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness have two adopted children, Oscar and Ava. They were unable to conceive naturally and through IVF, before deciding to adopt.
The actor explained, “I don’t think of them as adopted – they’re our children.”
Former “Ally McBeal” star is one of a number of celebrity mothers to adopt a child as a single mother. She adopted her son Liam in 2001, later marrying actor Harrison Ford and they became a family. Aww!
Queen of pop Madonna met two children in Malawi and adopted David first and fought a legal battle for her daughter Mercy. Mercy’s family fought against the adoption, but courts eventually ruled in Madonna’s favor.
“Knocked Up” actress Katherine Heigl and her musician husband Josh Kelley adopted their first child Naleigh from South Korea in 2009, later adopting daughter Adalaide. Katherine always knew she would adopt after growing up with adopted siblings.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have three adopted children, but Jolie’s first son Maddox was adopted before she hooked up with Pitt. They later adopted Zahara and Pax and have daughter Shiloh and boy/girl twins, Knox Leon and a Vivienne Marcheline. There are rumors Angelina is pregnant again. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Singer Cheryl Crow adopted her first son, Wyatt, in 2007 when he was two weeks old. She gave him a little brother, Levi James, in 2010.
Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards adopted a daughter named Eloise in 2012. She said of her daughters, Sam and Lola, “They want to adopt when they get older and become mums. I’m so very proud of them that they’ve really embraced Eloise.”
“Basic Instinct” actress Sharon Stone has three adopted sons – Roan, 13, Laird, eight, and Quinn, seven. Roan was adopted during Sharon’s brief marriage and custody was given to her ex-husband Phil Bronstein, but she has full visitation rights.
Statuesque actress Charlize Theron is another single mommy. She adopted a baby boy named Jackson in 2012. She said of adoption, “There are so many unwanted children on this earth and it’s our job to care for them. And if we don’t we’re doing the world a disservice.”
