Long before they found fame on their reality show, the Robertson family of “Duck Dynasty” battled their inner demons.
Phil Robertson speaks candidly about his personal battle with alcoholism and Miss Kay reveals she knew he was cheating on her, before changing his life around.
In a short documentary released by the Christian group I Am Second, the stars of the hit A&E show open up about their battles with drugs, alcohol, and infidelity.
Family patriarch Phil Robertson talked about the darkest days of his life.
The 67-year-old stated, “I got into a big barroom brawl. The laws got after me. I went to the woods, of course.”
Miss Kay also shared her story, discussing the problems caused in their marriage due to her husband’s alcohol abuse.
Kay said, “The drinking got worse. And I knew then but I didn’t want to believe it. He was running around on me. And what I would tell my boys all the time is, ‘That’s not your daddy. That’s the devil in your daddy'”.
Phil admits, “I would say the low point is when I ran Miss Kay and the kids off”.
Miss Kay admitted that there were times when she almost gave up on her husband. She said of their marital low point, “I’ve been fighting for this marriage for a long time. And it’s not working”.
The family matriarch convinced Phil to talk with his pastor and that is where the repairing of the family began.
Phil stated, “We would all be better off if we loved God…and loved each other”.
Phil Robertson was able to put his naughty ways and drinking behind him, leading him to invent his now-famous duck call business.
