Cory Monteith, best known for playing Finn Hudson on “Glee”, tragically passed away from what’s being reported as a suspected drug overdose.
The sad news of Monteith’s passing has rocked Hollywood and fans, who were shocked to hear the tragic news late Saturday night. Lea Michele, his fiance and co-star, who had been planning their wedding will now have to attend his funeral.
Cory Monteith, 31, was staying at the posh Fairmount Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver and had been having a fun time out with friends.
In the hours before Monteith’s death, Cory had friends over to his hotel room. After hanging out there for some time, Cory and his group of friends went out until the early morning. CCTV footage shows the actor returned to his hotel room alone.
The “Glee” star was scheduled to check out of the hotel on July 13 by noon. After failing to check out, the hotel staff went to his room, where they found him dead.
A Forensic Identification Unit dispatched to the scene determined that Monteith had been dead for “several hours.”
Police refused to say whether drug paraphernalia had been found in his room but said there was no sign of foul play.
Cory Monteith had recently completed a stint in rehab for drug addiction. He has battled addiction issues since he was a teenager.
Monteith’s parents divorced when Monteith was 7, and by 13, as he discussed in a 2011 Parade interview, he was skipping school to get drunk. Monteith attended 12 different schools before he dropped out for good at 16. His mother and friends staged an intervention at 19, after Monteith stole a large amount of money from a family member, an event he told Parade was “a cry for help.”
Earlier this year Monteith checked himself into rehab for a second time. He completed treatment in April.
Cory Monteith’s fiance and co-star Lea Michele is said to be devastated, understandably.
Michele’s rep issued a statement saying, “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time”.
Lea Michele is “absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable”.
Lea, who plays Rachel Berry in the hit TV school musical, had been busy planning their wedding.
An insider said, “It is absolutely tragic. Lea was busy organizing what should have been the happiest day of their lives but now she is planning her worst nightmare, Cory’s funeral. He meant the world to Lea as she did to him. No one can believe he is gone at such a young age.
“Cory never shied away from his demons and twice he tried to rid himself of them. He was such a huge talent and touched every one he met”.
The actual cause of Cory Monteith’s death has not been announced. The coroner said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Cory Monteith’s sudden passing hits home for many people who have lost loved ones due to drug and alcohol or depression issues. Our hearts go out to Cory Monteith’s family, friends, and fans.
