Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson has been arrested for violating his probation this morning after appearing in a Broward County court room.
Johnson, 35, turned himself into authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest, stemming from domestic violence charges after he head-butted his wife Evelyn Lozada last year.
Johnson reportedly failed to report to his probation officer on two different occasions and couldn’t prove he had been attending domestic violence classes as ordered.
Chad Johnson appeared in court in handcuffs this morning, telling the female judge that he “didn’t do anything on purpose” and claimed missing probation was just a “misunderstanding.”
Judge Kathleen McHugh wasn’t buying what Johnson was selling and the former football star was taken into custody by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office with a bond set at $1,000.
Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Johnson for 60 days. A final hearing for the probation violation has been set for June 3.
Chad was arrested last August after his his bride of one month, Evelyn Lozada, claimed that he head-butted her after she confronted him about a receipt she found for a box of rubbers.
She was treated for a cut to her forehead and the former football star was charged with battery.
He was cut from the Miami Dolphins the day after his arrest and was placed on 12-months probation and ordered to attend domestic violence classes.
Lozada revealed months ago, “We don’t communicate at all. We’re not at that point. Both of us are doing a whole lot of healing and soul searching and working on ourselves. I know I am and I hear that he is as well.
“We still do love each other. We were in a tough relationship and at times toxic. It’s still every emotional for the both of us.”
