Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have ended their relationship after dating for over two years.
The couple, who went public with their romance in October 2010, met when they co-starred in the Woody Allen film “Midnight in Paris”.
The cause of the break-up of Rachel, 34, and 44-year-old British actor Michael are unknown.
Some suggest it may be the long distance, which was the reason given for Michelle Williams and Jason Segel’s split earlier this month.
Rachel McAdams said in previous interviews that it isn’t easy being in a long distance relationship, but that they made time to be together.
Rachel lives in Toronto, Canada, while Michael divides his time between his native Wales and Los Angeles.
McAdams previously said, “Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart – we rack up a lot of air miles – but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not. Trying to establish roots somewhere is a bit of a joke.”
Rachel added that trust and communication is very important, saying, “You need to trust each other and be able to talk to each other and be best friends.’
Michael Sheen said previously that he quit Twitter last October after people made mean comments about why such a gorgeous actress would date him.
He said at the time, “‘I don’t need to read those things. It was just abuse, people writing stupid things, as people do. On the one hand Twitter gives you the opportunity to engage with people, which is great, but on the other there are people who feel they can say whatever they want, put poison out there, really, without fear of any repercussions.”
Rachel McAdams was previously engaged to actor Ryan Gosling, her co-star in “The Notebook” but they split in 2007.
Michael Sheen dated British actress Kate Beckinsale for eight years and they have a 14-year-old daughter named Lily together.
