Kara DioGuardi is going to be a mom!
The Grammy-nominated songwriter, who was a judge on American Idol’s eighth and ninth seasons, reveals that she and her husband Mike McCuddy will be welcoming their first child in several weeks.
DioGuardi, 42, said, “We are eagerly awaiting the healthy and happy birth of our son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy.”
Kara struggled with fertility issues for years and went through several failed IVF treatments before exploring adoption and surrogacy.
Kara DioGuardi and Mike, who tied the knot in 2009, decided to give surrogacy a try.
She said, “We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate. I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked.”
“We’re praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it’s as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she’s been a gem throughout the whole process,” the songwriter stated.
She adds, “I’ve got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift.”
Kara opened up about her struggles trying to have a baby in her 2011 memoir, “A Helluva High Note”. She wrote about her three rounds of IVF treatments during her final season on “American Idol”.
She wrote, “I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV. Leaving was painful and there will always be a part of me that wanted to stay. But my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.”
