The fast life in Hollywood can easily seduce celebrities into a partying lifestyle full of excess.
Celebrities under pressure to perform and constant scrutiny can easily slip into drug use and addiction. Most of the celebrity deaths in our list of drug overdoses were believed to be accidental, mixing prescription medications that were lethal.
Brittany Murphy passed away in December 2009 at the age of 32. The adorable actress was best known for her quirky roles in “Clueless”, “Just Married”, and “Girl Interrupted”. The pretty blonde was found unconscious in her bathroom. Her death was caused by pneumonia and drug intoxication.
British singer Amy Winehouse died in July 2011 at the age of 27. The troubled singer battled drugs and alcohol for year and was trying to get her life together. Oddly enough, she was known for her song “Rehab”. Winehouse was found dead in her London with her death being blamed on alcohol intoxication.
Australian actor Heath Ledger tragically passed away from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008 2008 at the age of 28 in NYC. Many believed the intensity of his role as the Joker in the Batman film “The Dark Knight” led to use of prescription drugs. He died from six drugs – oxycodone, hydrocodone, Valium, and Zanax.
Singer Whitney Houston passed away in February 2012 at the age of 48. Whitney’s hit songs included “I Will Always Love You” and “Greatest Love of All”. Drug addiction took over her life and her voice. She was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room. The coroner’s report listed Houston’s cause of death as drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use”.
Michael Jackson passed away at the age of 50 in June 2009 from an accidental drug overdose. He was preparing to perform a record number of shows at London’s O2 area when his doctor accidentally administered too much medication to the singer.
“Lost Boys” star Corey Haim passed away from a drug overdose on March 10, 2010 at the age of 38. The star had battled addiction for a number of years. Haim had been taking Valium, Vicodin, Soma (a muscle relaxant) and Haloperidol (an anti-psychotic).

Anna Nicole Smith died at the age of 39 in February2007, just five months after giving birth to her daughter Danielynn. Her son Daniel, 20, had died just five months before her from taking a combination of Lexapro and Zoloft along with methadone. Anna Nicole had the drug Noctec in her system at the time of her death.
