Sir Elton John’s bass player, who has been performing with Elton John since 1992, has committed suicide.
The body of Robert Wayne Birch, 56, was discovered near his home on Wednesday morning.
Birch died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, but authorities have not yet located a suicide note.
LA County Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter said the case is “being investigated as a possible suicide.”
Robert always said he “couldn’t ask for a better gig” than working with Sir Elton John.
He stated, “Not only is the music fantastic, but the bass lines are classic and Elton is a gem. He is like family; I love him dearly and truly value our personal and musical relationship with all of my heart.”
