Actor, director and Grammy Award-winning song writer Andy Griffith has passed away today at age 86.
Griffith passed away at around 7 a.m. this morning at his North Carolina home. The actor’s exact cause of death has not been revealed, but Griffith had a history of heart problems.
Griffith was best known for his role as the kind-hearted Sheriff in “The Andy Griffith Show” which ran from 1960 to 1968.
Most of the episodes revolved around Andy and his son Opie (Ron Howard) and his bumbling deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts). The sitcom is known as one of the best of all time.
Griffith also starred as in the 1980s hit show “Matlock”, which ran from 1986 to 1995.
Andy was also successful in his music career with his 1996 album “I Love To Tell The Story: 25 Timeless Hymns”.
Andy’s co-star George Lindsey “Goober Pyle” passed away in May at age 83.
