Time magazine’s latest cover, showing 26-year-old Jamie Lynne Grumet breastfeeding her almost 4-year-old son, certainly has people talking!
The editors of Time Magazine ran the cover and story to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dr. Barry Sears’ book on the subject of attachment parents.
Grumet spoke in the article about how her mother nursed her until she was 6-years-old and wanted that same bond with her children.
Jamie Lynn blogs about her parenting experiences on I Am Not The Babysitter, but the blog apparently crashed with all the traffic today.
Grumet reveals she became pregnant with her biological son while in the process of adopting a black son. There are photos of Grumet breastfeeding both of her sons at once below.
The breastfeeding mom seems very surprised by her sudden fame, writing on Facebook, “Oh my gosh! Aram and I are on the cover of @timemagazine.”
Grumet is scheduled to make an appearance on the “Today” show Friday.
Celebrities have taken to twitter to give their two cents on the controversial article.
New mom Alyssa Milano tweeted, “@Time, no! You missed the mark! You’re supposed to be making it easier for breastfeeding moms. Your cover is exploitive & extreme.”
Former “Blossom” actress Mayim Bialik wrote on Facebook, “i am going to bat about this TIME cover photo for all of the amazing women who helped me be the mother i was meant to be. this is for you, La Leche League International and for every lactation consultant and fellow mama warrior who held me while I cried. this is not easy, to try and speak for all of us, but i will do my best to make you proud.”
Comedian Dane Cook had a little fun with his comments, tweeting, “Time Magazine’s cover is pretty ballsy or tittsy. The kid looks nourished. Wonder if they call that the yum yum chair.”
Grumet’s son Aram was a YouTube sensation before his controversial TIME cover. Check out little Aram singing Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”:
