Dr. Conrad Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. Read more on Dr. Murray’s appearance in court today below.

Dr.  Murray is accused of acting “unlawfully and without malice” in causing the death of Michael Jackson, 50, in June.

Murray was said to have acted ‘without the caution and circumspection required” when he administered, propofol, a powerful sedative to Jackson to help him sleep.

Dr. Murray is pleading not guilty to the charges.

The Los Angeles county coroner ruled Michael Jackson’s death a homicide “caused by acute intoxication of the powerful anesthetic propofol, with other sedatives a contributing factor.”

Murray, who is based in Houston, went to Los Angeles to meet with lawyers and surrendered to police today.

The police affadavit stated that Murray had been trying to wean Jackson off propofol, which had been helping him sleep, by mixing up a cocktail of anti-anxiety drugs and sedatives.

But Michael Jackson went into cardiac arrest on June 25, and Murray could not revive the pop star.

If convicted, Dr. Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison.
