Serena Williams Hit With $82,500 Fine & Probation For U.S. Open F-Bombs

Serena Williams may even find out her fine is even higher at $175,000 and be barred from the next US Open if she has any other incidents during the next seasons. But hopefully she has learned her lesson.
“But if she does not have another offense in the next two years, the suspension is lifted,” Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock said in a telephone interview from London. His decision was to be formally released later Monday.
Serena Williams, who is an 11-time Grand Slam singles champion, cussed out a lineswoman towards the end of her semifinal loss to Kim Clijsters of Belgium back in September.
Williams was serving at 15-30 and down 6-4, 6-5, when the lineswoman cited Williams for a foot fault on a second serve to put her a point away from defeat. The call caused gasps from the crowd.
A very angry Serena Williams walked up to the lineswoman and pointed her tennis racket at her.
“If I could, I would take this f–king ball and shove it down your f–king throat,” Williams said.
Williams’s received a second violation of the match which made her automatically lose a point and Clijsters won the contest.
Williams was hit with a $10,000 US on-site fine, but the issue was sent on to the Grand Slam committee administrator, who opened an investigation to determine whether Williams’ behavior should be considered a “major offense” with larger penalties.
He concluded that Williams violated the “major offencs” rule for “aggravated behavior” and the Grand Slam committee approved his decision Saturday.
