A Missouri grand jury has indicted 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante for first-degree murder for the killing of her 9-year-old neighbor, Elizabeth Olten. Read more on this disturbing story below.
Alyssa Bustamante, 15, is accused of killing 9 year-old Elizabeth Olten by strangling her, cutting her throat and stabbing her on Oct. 21.
Bustamante is also charged with armed criminal action for allegedly using a knife in the attack.
The indictment came down on Wednesday after a judge ruled Alyssa should stand trial as an adult. Bustamante is being held without bond in Cole Country jail and if convicted of first-degree murder she could be sentenced to life in prison.
Alyssa Bustamante admitted digging Elizabeth Olten’s grave four days before the murder and wanted to know what killing felt like.
During testimony, Alyssa Bustamante sat shackled in her orange jail jumpsuit with pale skin and her long brown bangs hanging over her eyes.
Alyssa was described as an excellent student but she had some depression issues and attempted suicide in 2007, and has a history of cutting herself.
Bustamante has been on the anti-depressant Prozac since 2007 after her suicide attempt.
Alyssa and her younger siblings are under the guardianship of their maternal grandmother since 2002.
“She did a premeditated murder, and she had all the services in place,†sources said. “Her grandmother did everything she could for her, and she chose to do this.â€
