Natalie Portman, 28, writes after reading Jonathana Safran Foer’s “Eating Animals” that “some things are just wrong”.  But Portman also equates meat-eating with rape… we’ll see how that goes across with rape victims!  Read more on what Portman had to say below.

Actress Natalie Portman wrote for The Huffington Post and had lots of interesting things to say about eating meat.

“Perhaps others disagree with me that animals have personalities,” she continues. “But the highly documented torture of animals is unacceptable, and the human cost Foer describes in his book, of which I was previously unaware, is universally compelling.”

The human cost that Portman discusses includes the current H1N1 outbreak, human respiratory ailments (as a result of pig shit being sprayed into the air), and other new bacterial strains. “Factory farming of animals will be one of the things we look back on as a relic of a less-evolved age,” she writes.

“I’ve always been shy about being critical of others’ choices because I hate when people do that to me,” she writes. “I’m often interrogated about being vegetarian (e.g., ‘What if you find out that carrots feel pain, too? Then what’ll you eat?’).

“I’ve also been afraid to feel as if I know better than someone else—a historically dangerous stance (I’m often reminded that ‘Hitler was a vegetarian, too, you know.’) But this book reminded me that some things are just wrong.”

Portman disagrees with the mentality, “This is tasty, and that’s why I do it,” Portman backs Foer’s argument that it wouldn’t hurt to give a little more thought to what is served at your dinner table.

“He posits that consideration…which has more to do with being polite to your tablemates than sticking to your own ideals, would be absurd if applied to any other belief (e.g., I don’t believe in rape, but if that’s what it takes to please my dinner hosts, then so be it).”

WOWZERS! That’s some crap to be spewing! I REALLY dislike when “actresses” take moral stands… Natalie, You are paid to speak lines and be pretty – other than that, we def. don’t want your opinions…

This is how Tom Cruise lost me as a fan – his personal life becomes larger than his acting life.

Wow. Interesting. Natalie apparently does approve of rape because she signed the petition supporting child rapist Roman Polanski. Her analogy is therefore hypocritical as well as completely stupid and offensive!

So apparently the only things Natalie has going for her are her looks and her acting skills.

Her comments equating meat eaters with rapists proves she is not only narrowminded, but also insensitive. I know rape victims who eat meat, and they would be very angry at hearing her remarks. I won’t be a bit surprised if she is forced to make a very public apology. She could very well be bringing down a huge shit-storm on herself because she talked before thinking.

I think you need to actually read the article, not just the headlines.

She gives this as an example of manners in the table. She says “would be absurd if applied to other belief” and she gives rape as an example.

It’s just a case of a worst case scenario used as an example.
