Airshow Pilot Chandy Clanton Dies In Plane Crash (Photos/Video)

Chandy Clanton, a member of the United States Unlimited Aerobatic Team, was killed Friday in her Edge 540 during practice for theĀ  Wingnuts Flying Circus in Tarkio, Missouri. Chandy Clanton was 36 years old. Read more on Chandy Clanton’s death below.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the plane crash happened Friday afternoon when her Edge 540 aircraft crashed in a bean field near U.S. 136 and State Route O near Tarkio.

Chandy Clanton, 36, of Lincoln, Nebraska was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Wing Nuts Flying Circus Fly-In is being held Saturday at the Gould Peterson Memorial Airport in Tarkio.

B.J. Scott, a spokesman for the group, said the event would go on as scheduled.

Clanton’s Web site said she was a three-time member of the United States Unlimited Aerobatic team. She was the youngest female pilot at the 2003 World Championships in Lakeland, Fla.

Both of her parents flew planes. Clanton was the mother of two sons, who she described as “future aviators”.
