The media has bee camped out at Maria’s apartment building ever since the word was out about Mark Sanford’s affair.

So what do we know about Maria Belen Chapur thus far? She is 43 years-old and has two sons from a previous marriage.

Her neighbor described her as a beautiful brunette who plays tennis, goes jogging, and has big pretty eyes.

Chapur has worked as a journalist and translator of English for around a year for the Argentine television station Canal America.

And now Maria Belen Chapur has finally admitted she is the woman at the heart of the Mark Sanford scandal.

Chapur issued a statement to a Buenos Aires television station stating:

“Of my private life I won’t speak, not now or in the future,” the statement said. “It’s been made public enough already, a fact that causes me terrible discomfort.”

Chapur, 41, says she believes she knows who hacked her e-mail account and leaked the emails between her and the governor.

“Since I don’t have sufficient proof and live in a state of law, I’m obligated to keep their identity anonymous,” her statement said. “I am not the judge of anyone; I leave all that in the hands of God.”

Governor Mark Sanford, a married father of four, described the affair as a “hopelessly impossible situation of love.”

Sanford said he considered resigning but decided to stay on the job. “Resigning would be the easiest thing to do,” he said on Sunday.

Sanford also said he will stay with his wife and four children.
