The Late Late Show’s Host Craig Ferguson Almost Committed Suicide
The Late Late Show host, Craig Ferguson, has a deal with HarperCollins to write his memoir to be called “American on Purpose”. The book will talk about Ferguson’s drug problems, previous interesting jobs, and how he nearly took his own life. Read more on Craig Ferguson below.
Funny guy Craig Ferguson’s memoir will be pubished in the Fall of 2009.
Ferguson’s book details his life from a little town in Scotland to the United States. He discusses his former jobs which include being bouncer, construction worker, and even a punk rocker.
The Late Late Show host will also reveal his battle with drugs an alcohol, as well as his suicide attempts. He tells of how on one Christmas morning he woke in a tavern storage room covered in vomit and urine.
“I felt worse than I ever had. … I was a drunk, a loser and a disaster as a human being. … The shame was immense. It pushed down on me like a terrible weight,” said the comedian, reflecting on the lowest time in his life.
The tavern was close to the Tower Bridge and Ferguson planned to jump into the Thames river. But on his way he ran into a friend that cheered him up and pretty much saved his life.
The Scottish comic credits America as “the land of the second, third and 106th chance.” Ferguson said, “failure is not a disgrace. It’s just a pitch that you missed, and you’d better get ready for the next one” because the next pitch could bring a homer.
Ferguson’s book sounds pretty interesting, don’t you think?
