Rusty DePass compares escaped gorilla to Michelle Obama's relatives

GOP Rusty DePass is in hot water after racist comments posted on his Facebook page. DePass suggested that a gorilla that escaped from a zoo was probably an ancestor of Michelle Obama’s. Damn! Read more on DePass’s comments below.

The republican activist apologized for posting the comment on his Facebook page, after a local political website caught wind of his racist comments.

DePass’s comment was a response to a Facebook post by an aide to state Attorney General Henry McMaster, who described in detail the escape of a gorilla from Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo Friday.

“I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless,” DePass wrote.

Rusty DePass later admitted that he was in fact referring to First Lady Michelle Obama.

“I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest,” he told WIS News, a local television station who spoke to DePass exclusively.

The comment was immediately removed while DePass’ Facebook page was also later deleted, WIS reports.

Many local politicians have also condemned the comment, calling it “sad.”

The White House has not commented on DePass’s rude comments.
