Former “Wilco” Member Jay Bennett Died At 45 (Photos)

Ex Wilco musician Jay Bennett died early Sunday morning in llinois in his sleep at the age of 45. Read more on Jay Bennett below.

Jay Bennett’s friend Edward Burch made the following statement: “Early this morning, Jay died in his sleep and an autopsy is being performed. The family is in mourning and is unavailable for comment at this time.”

Jay Bennett is most well known for being in the band Wilco. Bennett stayed with the band for seven years, but left after a trained relationship with the bandleader, Jeff Tweety.

On his Myspace blog, Bennett recently reported he was suffering with intense pain from a recent hip injury incurred from stage-diving at a show, but that he was still “in a really good place.”

Jeff Tweedy has released the following statement:

“We are all deeply saddened by this tragedy. We will miss Jay as we remember him — as a truly unique and gifted human being and one who made welcome and significant contributions to the band’s songs and evolution. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends in this very difficult time.”

The cause of death has not yet been released.
