Dom DiMaggio reportedly died with his family at his side, according to his wife, Emily. Although a cause of death was not given, she did say that Dom had been sick lately.
“He was the most wonderful, warm, loving man,” his wife said. “He adored his children, and we all adored him.”
Dom DiMaggio was the youngest of three brothers who all became center fielders. Dom still holds the record for the longest consecutive game hitting streak in Red Sox history, hitting in 34 straight games back in 1949.
Dom had the nickname of “The Little Professor” because of his height at 5′ 9″, and his glasses.
Dom DiMaggio is survived by his wife, Emily, three children and six grandchildren.
Our condolences to the family of Dom DiMaggio.
