William “The Refrigerator” Perry is reportedly in serious condition in a hospital in South Carolina due to symptoms of a chronic illness called Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome. Read more on Refrigerator Perry’s condition below.

William Perry is most known for his one-yard touchdown with the Chicago Bears in 1985.

Perry’s relative said they do expect him to recover.

“Refrigerator” Perry, 46, lives in Aiken, South Carolina and was diagnosed last June with Guillain-Barre’ syndrome.

Purnell Perry spoke to the Chicago Sun Times by telephone saying his uncle entered the hospital over a week ago because of complications related to the illness, and is expected to make a full recovery.

“They were making sure he was in pretty good health before they started treating him,” said Purnell Perry.

A spokeswoman for Aiken Regional hospital did state that William Perry is in serious condition, but did not give any details.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an “uncommon inflammatory disorder in which your body’s immune system attacks your nerves, typically causing severe weakness and numbness that usually starts in your extremities and quickly worsens.”

Sadly there is not a cure for Guillain-Barré syndrome, but treatments are available that help relieve the symptoms and duration.

William Perry played ten seasons of football, eight with the Bears and two with the Philadelphia Eagles. Perry was given the name  “The Refrigerator” for his huge 6-foot-2, 350-pound frame. He won a Super Bowl ring his rookie year with the 1985 Bears, after scoring a touchdown in the game.
