Posted on March 20, 2009
Authorities have now confirmed the death of former Detroit Lions quarterback William “Jeff” Komlo, who has been a fugitive since 2005 after failing to show DUI charges. Read more on William Jeff Komlo below.
The State Department used fingerprints to identfy William Jeff Komlo, 52, who died in a car wreck in Greece over the weekend. “Even though we heard that he was deceased, the first reaction was that, well, we better make a positive identification,” said Chester County cheif detective Jim Vito. “As far as we’re concerned, we’re closing this now.”
William Jeff Komlo played for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1979 to 1983.
Komlo failed to show for sentencing on his DUI convictions as well as for an unrelated hearing months earlier. At the time of his disappearance, Komlo was under investigation for fires at his home in Chester Springs and another home in Florida.
Interesting story but tragic end for Jeff Komlo.
