An official in the D.C. government’s office of the chief technology officer, Yusuf Acar, (pictured above) and a contractor for the agency, Sushil Bansal, were arrested in a federal bribery sting today. Read more on the arrests and the FBI bribery sting below.

Yusuf Acar, 40, was arrested by FBI agents at his home in Northwest Washington this morning.

Sushil Bansal, a former city employee and a contractor with the technology office, also has been arrested.

Channing Phillips, the spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, declined to comment saying the case “is under seal.”

Yusuf Acar has worked for the city since 2004 and is an information systems security officer in the D.C. government and earns $127,468. Acar worked under Vivek Kundra, the city’s chief technology officer, who recently left D.C. government to become President Obama’s federal chief information officer.

Sushil Bansal is president and chief executive of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp.

From the Washington Post:

According to D.C. Council records, Bansal’s company was awarded a $10 million, one-year contract in June to provide “information technology services, equipment and software.” Payment, however, was to based on task orders and delivery, meaning the company would not necessarily receive the entire $10 million.

According to his company’s Web site, Bansal used to work in the D.C. government. Last August, he was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the D.C. chapter of the Association of Indians in America.

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer has a budget of about $69 million and 298 employees.

Supposedly Vivek Kundra is not involved in the investigation.

Reuters reports:

The FBI raided the former office of Obama administration official Vivek Kundra and arrested two people in a corruption probe on Thursday, but Kundra is not a target of the investigation, a spokeswoman for Washington’s mayor said.

The FBI searched the offices of the District of Columbia’s chief technology officer, a post formerly held by Kundra, as it investigates employee corruption there, spokeswoman Mafara Hobson said.

President Barack Obama named Kundra, 34, to be the federal government’s chief information officer last week, responsible for overseeing the government’s computer systems.

The White House declined to comment.
