Former “Monkees” Member Peter Tork Has Rare Cancer (Photos)

Peter Tork, the former member of The Monkees, is battling a rare form of cancer in his head and neck. Tork’s type of cancer is called adenoid cystic carcinoma and was found on the lower region of Tork’s tongue. Read more on Peter Tork below.
Tork released a statement about his cancer.
“It’s a bad news, good news situation,” Tork said in a statement released this week. “It’s so rare a combination that there isn’t a lot of experience among the medical community about this particular combination. On the other hand, the type of cancer it is, never mind the location, is somewhat well known, and the prognosis, I’m told, is good.”
Peter Tork had surgery on Wednesday and is now ready to begin radiation treatment. Tork’s rep says the cancer has no spread.
Peter Tork was an original member of The Monkees when the band began and was in the television show in 1966. Other band members were Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, and Michael Nesmith,. Peter Tork became a familiar face both on-screen and on the stage. Peter has reunited with Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones for several reunion tours over the years.
Peter Tork now performs solo with a band called Shoe Suede Blues. And Tork also writes an advice column at a Web site called The Daily Panic.
