Famed Kronk boxer Mickey Goodwin, a one time Golden Gloves amateur title winner, was found bludgeoned to death Tuesday. Read more on Mickey Goodwin’s death below.

Melvindale police Lt. Keith Guyot stated that Goodwin’s body was found in the home he shared with his mother. Goodwin’s mother was not home at the time.

From the Associated Press:

Goodwin was trained at Detroit’s Kronk Gym by Emanuel Steward, who also trained Thomas Hearns and Hilmer Kenty. Goodwin won the Golden Gloves title in 1975 and turned pro two years later, compiling a 40-2-1 record with 28 knockouts as a light heavyweight.

Goodwin, however, never won a championship. After a draw and a loss in 1985, he went eight years before his next fight, then and won seven straight bouts, the last on Nov. 29, 1994.

A cause of death remains under investigation, he said. Police are unsure if Roberts was beaten to death, hit by a vehicle or fell. Investigators do not believe Goodwin was killed in his home, Roberts said.

It doesn’t look like it happened here,” Lt. Roberts said.
