Paul Zolezzi, 30, an aspiring model posted on his Facebook page his suicide note. Tortured by his heroin addiction, Zolezzi hanged himself in a Brooklyn playground on the monkey bars. Read more Paul Zolezzi’s tragic suicide.
A jogger discovered the body of Paul Zolezzi, 30, hanging from the monkey bars in Mount Prospect Park playground near the Brooklyn Museum around 7 a.m.
Just hours earlier, Zolezzi had updated his Facebook page with a suicide note, saying he was “born in San Francisco, became a shooting star over everywhere, and ended his life in Brooklyn. … And couldn’t have asked for more.”
Zolezzi’s mother, Stephanie Zolezzi, told the Daily News that Paul had been having a rough time after a broken engagement two years ago.
“I would say that people get so lonely, so delusional, that all they want to do is be remembered,” she said from her home near San Francisco.
“He probably wanted to be remembered in a big way, to do it dramatically. That’s what drugs will do to people.”
She said Paul had tried his hand at acting and modeling, and was busted last fall in San Francisco for buying heroin and left town.
Zolezzi was living in Portland, Ore., but 10 days ago came to Brooklyn, where he had lived before. Paul slept on his friend Melissa Lopez’s couch, and she was worried about his “dark” behavior.
“I think he was really sick,” Lopez, 33, said, and said Zolezzi had been talking to himself. “But I was in shock because you never think somebody is going to go that far.”
Zolezzi’s father, a writer that was schizophrenic committed suicide by throwing himself off the Golden Gate Bridge when he was in his forties. His mother had always worried about Paul’s mental state.
She urged him to go into a Christian drug rehab center, but he wouldn’t. His mother had not seen Paul since September and didn’t know he was in New York until police called after finding her number in his cell phone.
“I didn’t know what was going on in his life. All I knew is that he knew I was always trying to pray for him,” Stephanie Zolezzi said. “He needed an adjustment to his ego. He couldn’t give up the fantasies about what he wanted his life to be.”
Paul Zolezzi posted his on Facebook “status updates.”
“Paul is wondering, what unspeakable act did I do in a previous life to deserve this one?” he wrote in late January.
“Paul is going to be the first person ever to hang himself on the way out of Portland! Everything here sucks!” he wrote just before coming to New York.
Paul Zolezzi’s facebook page was taken down late yesterday.
After he updated his status for the last time at 8:40 p.m. Friday, a clueless buddy apparently couldn’t tell if he was joking about ending his life.
“Are you dying? or just staying brooklyn?” the friend commented on his Facebook page. “I hope its the latter.”
Such a tragic story. Our condolences to his friends and family.

His mother seems to be a bitch and cold about her son’s death. She appears in her comments to feel that he deserved it.
