Lux Interior, lead singer of the punk bank The Cramps died Wednesday morning (February 4) of an existing heart condition. Lux Interior He was 62.
Lux Interior was born Erick Lee Purkhiser,and started the band “The Cramps” in 1972 with guitarist Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy (real name Kristy Wallace) and Lux Interior were married. Supposedly Lux picked up Poison Ivy hitchhiking in California.
“The Cramps” songs are always entertaining with lyrics that included puns as well as kinky sex.This punk band had quite a bit of rockabilly and blues in their style.
“The Cramps” because of Lux Interiors voice and style, are considered the pioneers of “psychobilly” and “horror rock.”
The band wrapped up their tour across Europe and the U.S. this past November.
Lux Interior is survived by his wife of 37 years, Poison Ivy.
