Michael Phelps Suspended & Loses Endorsement Over Pot Photos

Michael Phelps was recently seen all over the internet hitting a bong. Now because of the pot smoking, Phelps is being suspended and losing one of his endorsement deals.
The Associated Press reports that USA Swimming has suspended Michael Phelps for three months of competition and in addition have cut off his financial support during that period.
“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the federation said in a statement, according to the AP. “Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”
Phelps, 23, also lost an endorsement deal with Kellogg Thursday, the Associated Press reports.
Phelps, who won eight gold medals in the Beijing Olympics, recently apologized for his “regrettable” actions and “bad judgment.”
But thus far Phelps’ other endorsers are hanging with him such as Visa and Speedo.
What do you guys think about this? Sure, the guy screwed up! But he is young and did apologize. What do you guys think?

it’s ridiculous that Michael Phelps is getting so much flak from this supposed marijuana scandal… Since when have we taken the reporting of trashy tabloids so seriously anyway?

Let him serve his three month suspension and move on. What’s the big deal? He admitted that he smoked. Suffer the consequences. Damn, it’s not like he’s going to prison. Everyone wants to do whatever they want but no one wants to suffer any sort of repercussions. Grow the F**K up people. There are always repercussions for our actions.

Michael Phelps is an American Hero. He stood tall and made America proud at the Beijing Olympics. This is how America treats its heroes, we forget all of the hard work Michael Phelps did to achieve his task, we forget the pride we felt with the each gold medal, we forget how Phelps helped America to be competitive against a Chinese when they planned on winning all of the golds, we forget all of those things and hang a man for smoking glass pipe at a party. That is our shame; America cares little for appreciation and loyalty but is absolute when it comes to misplaced morality. In short America often finds it easier to tear people down and point fingers than it does to recognize freedom and practice good will. I hope they do try to arrest Michael Phelps to further shed light on our hypocrisy and maybe stir the good people of this country up enough to stand up for their friends and neighbors being persecuted in this “drug War”.

Was Michael high when he swam? NO! Did he have the muchies for Kellogs? I doubt it! Would you?! He’s 23 for christ sakes. Give him a break! Those on the board who are suspending him for 3 months are cutting off the hand that feeds them. Do you think the attendance at the events that Michael is banned from is going to have the same numbers? Think again! Lower numbers means lower revenues. Lower revenues means someone is loosing money. Too Bad Now!

Phelps is a punk! He smoke weeds and snuck in theatre? He deserve loosing the endorsement. Just because he won Olympic it doesn’t give him the right to act irresponsibly without any consequences.
I am not sure what people see in him but I see a punk kid who have yet to grow up. Wake up and start judging people BY THEIR ACTIONS!!

What??? Billy bob your right about one thing. judge people on there actions. Im judging you for posting the dumbest thing i have ever read and Im going to judge Mr. Phelps for winning 8 gold medals and still showing the world that NOBODY is perfect. He smoked some weed big deal. Who hasn’t? That guy is still JUST a kid and he is under so much pressure and I think he handles it pretty well. He is a role model to everyone with a dream.
