Melody Morales, a former Hooters girl says she has the body but the wrong accent, and is suing the Hawaiian Tropic Zone. Read more on Melody Morales’ lawsuit below.
Melody Morales said she was turned down for a job by a manager at the Times Square restaurant who told her, “You don’t speak white” and “you are ghetto.”
Morales, 21, is now suing the Hawaiian Tropic Zone. “Not to brag, but I look good in a bikini,” Morales said Tuesday. “I could have done a perfect job there.”
The lawsuit stated that Melody went with her mother to the restaurant last March to apply for a job. But supposedly a manager turned her down saying, “I am not going to ruin my business with your Latin accent.”
Morales, who said her dream job is to pour drinks while strutting her stuff in a bikini, returned to the Hawaiian Tropic Zone months later still in pursuit of a position.
Her suits says another manager instantly rejected her, telling her, “We will not hire you because you have a speech problem,” and “You have a Latin accent.”
“It is 100% illegal to discriminate because of where you’re from or because you have an accent,” said her lawyer, Derek Smith. “Melody certainly has the assets for this job.”
Morales, who sports an ample 34-D cup size, said she was appalled.
“They never even looked at me in a bikini,” she whimpered.
A lawyer for the Riese Organization, which operates the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, said the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, is “without merit.”
“We are proud of the many Latino and Latina employees in our diverse workforce,” said James Rosenzweig.
The restaurant that bills itself as “The Hottest Place on Earth” is facing a $600 million federal suit from four former female workers accusing an ex-boss of sickening sexual antics.
“I believe everything they’re saying,” Morales said.
Morales, who is of mixed Dominican and Puerto Rican background, works at a bikini bar in Westchester County.
“It was kind of like my dream to work at the [Hawaiian Tropic Zone],” she said. “It’s the bikini, I guess.”
On its Web site, the Hawaiian Tropic Zone restaurant features pictures of several of its staff, which include a dancer from Russia, a hostess from Nigeria and a bartender from Puerto Rico.
But Morales said they just do not like her accent. “I guess they want their girls to speak white,” she said.

She is ridiculous. Private industry has the right to hire whoever they want. Their employed personnel should fit the image of the Establishment as management sees fit. There have been plenty of jobs that I have not received even though I knew I was qualified….not a big deal, thats part of life. It’s amazing how people think they are “entitled” to whatever they want this day and age. She needs to suck it up (and grow up) and move on…big deal! There are worse things in this world than someone not getting a job a bar….give me a break Melody.

First of all. I didn’t know that “white” was a language.. She claims that HTZ wants their girls to speak “white”. WTF? If you mean speaking proper english, well then maybe she should take a night course.
Second of all, this girl has got some alright curves, but her face is butt ugly, and HTZ girls are almost always facially pretty as well.
She should seriously go get a life.. I hear that prostitution can be very lucrative..

I worked with Melody @Hooters and she never worked as a waitress because she was unable to learn or comprehend a seating chart.She only worked as a hostess for a very short time. She was eventually let go because she was indeed “ghetto”, could not comprehend company policy, did not like to follow rules and was outright lazy.

Seriously? This sounds like someone wanting money for doing NOTHING. Nice photo shop job…maybe you didn’t get the job because your body is not up to par…or because HTZ girls don’t draw on their lips and eyebrows with a sharpie. Get a life and get a real job where you keep you clothes on, or jump on a treadmill.
