Virginia Tech Student Xin Yang Decapitated By Fellow Student Haiyang Zhu (Photos)

A graduate student from China named Xin Yang was decapitated with a kitchen knife in a campus cafe at Virginia Tech by another graduate student named Haiyang Zhu. Police said Zhu knew the victim. Read more on the Virginia Tech murder below.
Xin Yang, 22, was murdered on Wednesday night after arriving at the campus from Beijing on January 8 to study accounting, Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum stated.
Yang’s accused attacker, 25-year-old Haiyang Zhu of Ningbo, China, knew her but police have yet to discover the motive for the murder. Police said that Haiyang was listed as one of Xin Yang’s emergency contacts.
Haiyang has been charged with first-degree murder and being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.
Haiyang Zhu and Xin Yang reportedly were having coffee at a campus cafe where Xin was living. Others at the cafe said they had not noticed any arguing before the attack happened.
Police received two 911 calls and were on the scene very quickly to arrest Haiyang.
University officials said Haiyang began attending last fall and was a PhD student in agricultural and applied economics.
The stabbing was the first killing on campus since a mass killing on campus in 2007, when a student gunman shot 32 people and then took his own life.
“An act of violence like this brings back memories of April 16,” university President Charles Steger said. “I have no doubt that many of us feel especially distraught.”
Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine offered condolences to the campus.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Xin Yang today – and with the broader Virginia Tech community,” he said in a statement.
“The tragic attack on campus this week has no doubt revived terrible memories for countless members of the Hokie family.”
So what provoked Haiyang Zhu to decapitate Xin Yang? Do you believe it was a crime of passion?

Mr. Zhu Haiyang is my wife’s course mate when studying at a Shanghai university in China. His parents are two professors teaching in Ningbo University!

I don’t think it’s a “crime of passion”. He obviously planned before hand. Bringing with him the kitchen knife and committing the murder. What was going on in his head around that time is anyone’s guess.

but they are minorities, therefore the Whiteman oppressed them and is the Whitemans fault. The whiteman should pay and also serve prison sentencing.

Chinese students came to America to study and they have a lot of pressure. Life is so fast paced in America and money is another pressure in life. Everyone has stress particularly we Chinese who have no loved ones ( like parents, relatives or even friends ) We are lonely and sometime isolated. Pressure and stress is so high. It is hard for this young man and young lady. When they came to this Country, they are lack of love, care and probably without good understanding. They are so new in this Country, the girl was here for only 2 weeks.
It is great loss for both of them. The girl died. The boy is in jail. I Can not think of any worse ending like this. Tragedy! They are so young and both are good students academically. Yet it is not only study here, you have to deal with finance and loneliness and all kinds of things you can not even imagine. Life should be like this !!! I am very sad for both Zhu Hai- Yang and Yang Xin.

Well… if the stress is so great here, then stay there. Real estate in Shanghai is more expensive than New York and salaries there are high. Schools in China are better than the US. Nobody forced either of them to go abroad. Stay home and build the motherland!

Rong, why in God’s name would you feel bad for that unstable murderer? People like that thrive on sympathy and self-pity. He sulked and felt sad about himself enough for everyone. What a weak person. EVERYONE has stress in this country, EVERYONE. This is a country built on immigrants. From Italians to Irish to Chinese to Mexicans, everyone has to deal with the ebb and flow of capitalism. Don’t sympathize with this murderer because he’s your countryman. That’s nationalistic ignorance. He destroyed an intelligent woman’s future because he was so selfish with his rage and loneliness. Who hasn’t been lonely?
This is a grown man we’re talking about…who decided to kill someone he just met after being in the States for not even one semester. Why are you sad for that piece of garbage dump?
“Woe is me. I’m so sad and lonely.”
That guy should have killed himself in his room. Or maybe he should have exercised or found a hobby. Or better yet…maybe he should have learned how to be mature at AGE 25.

Oh and STtR, your argument (unless you’re joking) is so utterly ridiculous. The Whiteman oppressed him? Do you call studying to a get a PhD oppression? You are a racist blockhead.
