Winfrey was chosen for using her talk show to bringing to light important animal rights issues. Oprah has focused on puppy mills and the treatment of animals in factory farms. Winfrey also went on a vegan diet for a week, and in April, dedicated an episode of her show to her late cocker spaniel Sophie, who died at age 13.
