Michelle Palmer, 36, and Vince Acors, 34, are out on bail but face three months in prison followed by deportation if their appeal is not successful.

The prosecutor in the case is also appealing the judge’s ruling, stating they were too lenient and should have gotten more time.

Michelle Palmer, a former publishing executive who had lived in Dubai for three years, and Acors, a visiting businessman from Bromley, south-east London, were arrested on Jumeirah Beach in the early hours of July 5 after meeting at an all-you-can drink Champagne brunch.

A policeman claimed the pair were having sexual intercourse and the prosecution said the assertion was backed by DNA evidence.

Acors and Palmer were charged with indecent behavior and having sexual intercourse outside marriage, as well as with drinking alcohol. They received the jail sentence for the first two offences and were fined 1,000 dirhams (£155) each for drinking alcohol.

Both Acors and Palmer maintain that they were not having full on sex with one another on the beach. Yeah, sure!

Friends of Palmer, from Oakham, Rutland, have said the case has left her “a paranoid, scared wreck”, who has been admitted to hospital over panic attacks and depression. Acors’s lawyer in Britain, Andrew Crossley, has said the case represented “a schism between two separate cultures”.

Legal sources say the pair will be sent to Dubai’s Central Jail if their appeal fails, a new complex that can hold up to 5,000 inmates and has separate sections for men, women, juveniles and immigrants.

Meanwhile Acors doesn’t seem quite as upset about the ruling. Vince Acors is still busy boozing and trying to sex up women in Dubai.

An onlooker that spotted Acors in the Barasti Bar the night he was bailed said: “He was drinking shot after shot – he must have had eight Sambucas and at least eight bottles of beer.

“He was drunk and getting more and more flirty. He thinks he’s some kind of celebrity and kept chatting up women. He got in really close, face-to-face.”

Another source said they saw Acors in the Barasti Bar and a club called Chi a week later. The witness said: “He was all over the place.

“Lots of women had a joke but Vince thought he could bed any of them.”

Another source claimed: “One of his sources of income is borrowing off family but I saw him drinking Champagne and vodka as though it was going out of fashion.”

Michelle, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, is keeping a low profile since being sacked as a publishing executive.

She and Acors, of Bromley, Kent, were caught romping on the beach on July 5 hours after meeting.

Michelle insists they were only kissing and cuddling but they were convicted of sex outside marriage.

Acors’ lawyer Andrew Crossley said: “He recalls being out the night he was sentenced but thinks it is unremarkable that he was talking to a lot of people.”
