Twilight Box Office Sales
Posted on November 22, 2008
“Twilight” raked in more than $7 million at the box office from it’s first showings at midnight. The vampire romance movie is a huge hit.
“Twilight” is based on a book series of the same name by author Stephenie Meyer that looks just awesome. Combining a love story with vampires. How cool!
The film stars Robert Pattinson as an immortal vampire named Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan, the teen girl who falls in love with Pattison.
“Clearly it wasn’t all hype,” said Brandon Gray, president of tracking firm Box Office Mojo.
“To have over $7 million from midnight/early Friday screenings suggests there’s a sizable audience for ‘Twilight’ and that it’s going to have a huge weekend,” he said.
Thus far critics are split on the movie. The Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan wrote, “I am not now nor have I ever been a 13-year-old girl, but ‘Twilight’ made me wish I could be, at least for a couple of hours, the better to appreciate a movie that has been targeted to that demographic with the delicious specificity of a laser weapon.”
But then Christian Orr of the magazine The New Republic wrote that the film was “underwhelming” for anyone except teen girls.

It was amazing, and any stuffy critic who says otherwise is simply trying to rebel against this overwhelming popular fad.

This movie was incredible, it really fulfilled that need for fantasy. Rob played the character Edward Cullen flawlessly. I saw it the day it came out and I am going to see it again tomorrow and I will buy the movie once it is released.

I love the movie and I’m 39, it wasn’t as good as the book, but definitely awesome. Robert and Kristen make the best Edward and Bella. It took a little getting use to, but I’m hooked on them. Can’t hardly wait for the rest of the movies. I’m going to buy them all and the audio books.

Oh hey, my daughter saw the first showing and she said the second time was better, only because everyone was screaming on all the good parts the first showing.

You have to be lighthearted to see this movie. I thought it was great. The fans will feel satisfied and it is recommended to read the book beforehand to fully understand the emotions being shared between the characters. The humor/romance was as close as it gets to the book.

Loved the books – enjoyed the movie. The movie left me wanting to see more of the Cullen family. Rob and Kristen were perfect in their roles. I liked the interaction between Bella and Jacob – sets up the New Moon sequel perfectly. Loved Charlie.
Truly looking forward to seeing the other books come to the screen

Twilight was absolutely amazing! I am going to see it again this tuesday with my boyfriend, this wednesday with my best friend, and then black friday with my sister. I saw the midnight release and i had to go to school the next day. That right there shows how much twilight means to me. Seriously, going to school with no sleep is difficult. But well worth it. Oh, and the reason for no sleep is I couldnt stop hyperventilating until it was over. ; )

I’m simply not suprise how well this movie did this weekend. What I’ll be suprised about it if it can do as well with the holiday season flicks coming out and everyone getting into the holiday spirit. There is a cool fan page on Twilight at http://www.squidoo.com/Twilight2008 that your readers might be into.

Omg! I’m totally in love with these books and have been since the beginning. The movie was fantastic. I can’t describe how well the movie was. Of course not better than the books, but very good. I’m so glad that I missed school for it.

I’m a married 27-year-old woman, and I went to see the movie with my husband, my husband’s best friend and his girlfriend (both read the books), and my best friend and her boyfriend (both read the books).
The movie was awesome. All of the movie critics who gave lame reviews were ALL MALE who don’t effing get it. They should do themselves a favor by not reviewing films that are largely targeted to women; by opening their mouths at all they reveal how ignorant they are.

I’m a 24 year old woman, and the critic’s comment on the movie being targeted to 13 year old girls is, well, way off target. There WAS a target audience (inlcuding those who read the series, obviously) but I would say it was more towards 16-30 year old females. First off, I wouldn’t let my 13 year old read these books (especially with the sexual undertones – books 3 and 4 deal with adult themes that I wouldn’t want to have to explain to a child) and I don’t think that the movies are aimed towards children either. In fact, they had to ‘tone down’ the adult-ness of the movie, since it was going to be listed as PG-13 (which made me a bit sad).
All in all, I loved the movie. I can see how I am part of the target audience, but I’m not offended by that. I’m also a target audience for Juno, Zack and Miri, any Judd Apatow film, etc, as are my contemporaries.

Wow, they are some pretty people. I liked the book, but didn’t like the movie. Check out all the changes they made from the book.

I hope the 2nd one is a more faithful adaptation.

I really enjoyed the movie, i had very low expectations for it, although i eagerly awaited it. I found parts hilarious, i loved it… they did very well in fitting all the important things from the book into the movie and the ending was very good… i think basically most people will either hate it or love it.. no in-between people.

I was disappointed with this movie. The actors were amazing and the scenery was beautiful. The part I didn’t enjoy (actually truly hated) was Kristen and Robert. I throughly dispised there portrayal of the beloved characters of Bella and Edward.
I’m really looking forward to New Moon though, because Robert won’t be in it so much with Kristen.
