Crystal Magnum, the woman that was said to have falsely accused three Duke lacrosse players of raping her at a party, still maintains she was attacked in her new book.
Mangum appeared Thursday for the first time after claiming she was attacked more than two years ago. In Crystal’s upcoming book she stated she wasn’t “looking forward to opening old wounds” but that she had to defend herself.
“Even as I try to move on with my life, I still find it necessary to take one more stand and fight,” she writes in the book, “The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story.”
“I want to assert, without equivocation, that I was assaulted. Make of that what you will. You will decide what that means to you because the state of North Carolina saw fit not to look at all that happened the night I became infamous”
Over two years ago, Crystal Mangum told police she was attacked and raped at a March 2006 lacrosse team party where she was had been hired as a stripper. After a disastrous local prosecution that eventually led to downfall of the district attorney, the state attorney general’s office found there really was not any evidence that the attack ever even occurred.
An attorney for one of the lacrosse players in the criminal case quickly denounced Mangum’s statements, saying her allegation hurt the accused players, the state and all women who have been victims of sexual assault.
“If Crystal Mangum truly wants to heal, get on with her life and have others learn from her experiences, she would admit her lies and the damage they did,” Joseph Cheshire said in an e-mail. “The fact that she will not do that makes all of her motives and self-possessed desire to explain herself another lie. This is about money and lies. Pure and simple.”
Mangum wouldn’t answer detailed questions about the case on Thursday, and the publisher of the book said repeatedly “the case is closed” and she accepts the conclusions of state prosecutors.
“At this point, it doesn’t really matter,” she said Thursday. “What matters is for people to know my account of what happened and for all of us to learn from it.”
The investigation by the state did not find any medical or DNA evidence to confirm Crystal’s story. And there were so many inconsistencies in Magnum’s account of what happened, the state the inconsistencies “were so significant and so contrary to the evidence that the State had no credible evidence that an attack occurred in the house that night.”
Crystal Magnum’s version of the attack varied from the number of guys that attacked her, and whether or not she was even assaulted at all. And photos of the party that contradicted Magnum’s story were said to have been altered. Sounds a little fishy huh?
A very odd thing happened in December 2006, when Magnum told an investigator for the former Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong that she wasn’t certain that the attacks had occurred.
Nifong then dropped the rape charge against the three indicted players, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and Dave Evans, leaving kidnapping and sexual offense charges in place. The case continued to unravel, and state Attorney General Roy Cooper eventually declared the players innocent victims of a “tragic rush to accuse” in April 2007.
Nifong was later disbarred for more than two dozen violations of the bar’s rules of professional conduct in his handling of the case. He even had to stay one night in jail for lying under oath to the judge.
Seligmann, Finnerty and Evans filed a federal civil rights lawsuit last year accusing Nifong, the city of Durham, police investigators and others of conducting “one of the most chilling episodes of premeditated police, prosecutorial and scientific misconduct in modern American history.” The families have not sued Mangum.
So it makes you wonder with the “dirty politics” involved, if the attacks did occur and were covered up.

Personally, I think the little bastards did attack Ms. Magnum. This is a part of the country where white men traditionally could rape black women with impunity and never face any consiquence for their actions. In fact the men would often brag about what they did. I believe this is a case of more of the same. Those boys are probably bragging about the fact they got away with raping the n*gg*r.The same social and political machinery that serves as sentry to protect white privilege is still at work.

She can’t even lie correctly in the book. She still claims the three raped her anally, orally, and vaginally. How does she explain the DNA lab finding the DNA of ten other men inside her and not one drop from any single lacrosse player? Uhhh….she just leaves that part out. She escaped without prosecution, but after continuing her lies I’d say it’s now time to prosecute her, along with the lawsuits already against Durham, Nifong, and Duke.

Azia, you are a complete and utter ghetto trash loser. The author of this article is also an uneducated, douchebag, ignorant piece of ghetto trash shit too if he/she thinks the attack ocurred, but was then covered up. Anyone, who isn’t some moronic racist loser, who has examined the evidence and read all Ms. Mangnum’s conflicting statement knows her story was complete bullshit. Obviously Ms. Magnum is as retarded as Azia if she thinks she won’t be sued for writing this book.
