Richard Blackwell, whose real name is Richard Selzer, has been ill for some time now. In August, Mr. Blackwell fell at his Los Angeles home and was reportedly in a coma.

The Los Angeles Times quoted his publicist Harlan Boll as saying the former actor and fashion designer died on Sunday afternoon in the hospital of complications from an intestinal infection.

Richard Blackwell was known for his “worst-dressed” list for 48 years. It certainly had to be despised by the celebrities on the worst-dressed list, but garnered much attention.

This past year it was the “Spice Girls” singer Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham at the top of his list. Blackwell said, “…in one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty ‘Posh’ Beckham can really wreck-em.”

In the No. 2 spot was troubled British singer Amy Winehouse, followed by actress Mary-Kate Olsen who, he said, “resembles a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane.”

Richard Blackwell had his own fashion clothing line for 35 years, and was also a costume designer who worked with huge Hollywood stars such as Jane Russell and Jayne Mansfield.
