Dee Dee Warwick died Saturday at a nursing home in Essex County, family spokesman, Kevin Sasaki said. For months Dee Dee Warwick has been ill, and her sister, Dionne Warwick was with her when she died.

Dee Dee had several on the Soul and R&B charts in the 1960s and 70s, including “Foolish Fool,” “She Didn’t Know (She Kept on Talking)” and a version of “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” that was later covered by Diana Ross and The Supremes.

Warwick was nominated for a Grammy two times in her career. Dee Dee Warwick sang backup for Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and others before starting own solo career.

Dee Dee Warwick was the niece of Christian singer Cissy Houston and also a cousin to Whitney Houston.

Dee Dee Warwick was just a teen when she began singing with sister Dionne Warwick in the late 1950s. The two sisters performed under the name The Gospelaires and also sang with the Drinkard Singers.

Dee Dee performed on the title song from Dionne Warwick’s gospel album, “Why We Sing,” released January 2008.
